Why We Pace This Route This Way

Outsiders assume winter in Bhutan is freezing everywhere, when November through February actually delivers our sharpest blue skies, empty trails, and mild sunny afternoons in Punakha and Paro. Pema built this schedule around sun angles rather than hotel breakfast hours, putting you beside the frosty Phobjikha marsh forty minutes before sunrise as black-necked cranes bugle and lift off into pink mist. You also hit Chele La and Dochula at first light before afternoon clouds touch Jomolhari.
