Paro Valley

Broad terraced rice fields, seventh-century Kyichu Lhakhang, and the pine climb up to cliffside Paro Taktsang.

Most journeys begin as your aircraft banks between forested ridges onto Paro single runway. Beyond Taktsang, quiet dirt lanes wind through Lamgong and Tshendona past rammed-earth farmhouses hung with drying red chillies and woodsmoke rising before supper.

Paro Valley Guide Field Tip

Set off on the Ramthangkha pine path by 7:15 AM so you reach Taktsang before mid-morning sun warms the stone stairs.

Best months: March to May, September to November

Road access: 15 mins from Paro International Airport

Scenic, wide-angle view of the golden rice fields and winding river of the Paro Valley in Bhutan.
