Nine days to witness Bumthang intimate stone-courtyard dances and midnight juniper fire arch
While Paro and Thimphu draw large crowds, Jambay Lhakhang Drup unfolds in a small seventh-century stone courtyard surrounded by Bumthang buckwheat fields. At midnight neighbours run beneath a blazing arch of dry juniper branches during Mevawong to wash away the old year misfortune, standing shoulder to shoulder under freezing stars. Our guide Dechen grew up in Jakar, so you share evening buckwheat pancakes in a family kitchen ten minutes from the temple gate.
