Why We Pace This Route This Way

Most six-day Paro trips move hotel every second night and never sit still long enough to be recognised by a household. This one stays put. You sleep in the same farmhouse for four nights, learn the morning routine of the family who owns it, and walk the terraces with the people who farm them. Taktsang still happens, but on a clear morning chosen with your legs in mind rather than on a fixed schedule.

Who This Journey Fits Best

Guests who want village time, slow mornings, and one valley understood properly

Day-by-Day Itinerary (6 Days)

  1. Day 1Lamgong2,250 m25 mins drive

Arrival and the short road to your farmhouse

Your guide meets you outside the arrivals hall and drives you ten minutes up the valley to a farmhouse in Lamgong, where butter tea and puffed rice are already on the low table. The afternoon is deliberately empty apart from a slow walk down to the stone channel that waters the paddy below the house.

Meals: Lunch, DinnerField highlight: First evening in a family kitchen with the wood stove lit
  2. Day 2Lamgong2,350 m2 hours walking

Farm morning and the terraces above the house

Wake early enough to watch the cattle taken out and the milking finished, then walk the terrace edges with your host while he explains which field floods first each June. After lunch you learn to make the red chilli and cheese dish the family eats with every meal, and the rest of the afternoon belongs to you.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerField highlight: Learning the household routine before the valley wakes
  3. Day 3Lamgong3,120 m5 hours walk · 20 mins drive

    Taktsang at first light

We leave at 6:30 to reach the pine trail before the first buses and climb steadily to Taktsang, resting at the tea house on the ridge. The descent finishes by early afternoon, which leaves time for a river stone dotsho bath in Tshendona before dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerField highlight: Cool morning air on the Taktsang trail
  4. Day 4Lamgong2,300 m3 hours total driving

Kyichu Lhakhang, Drukgyel and village archery

Visit Kyichu Lhakhang when the butter lamps are being filled, then drive to the ruined walls of Drukgyel Dzong with Jomolhari on the skyline behind. In the afternoon the men of the village set up a bamboo target and hand you a bow, which is louder and harder than it looks.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerField highlight: Bamboo bow archery with the neighbourhood team
  5. Day 5Paro2,250 m45 mins drive

Rice terraces, a weaving house and the last long lunch

Walk a low loop across the terraces to a house where two sisters weave kira cloth on backstrap looms, and buy nothing unless you want to. We move to a Paro town hotel for the final night so the morning airport run is short, then eat a long dinner together.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerField highlight: Backstrap looms and the last dinner in town
  6. Day 6Departure2,250 m15 mins drive

    Departure from Paro

Breakfast at the hotel, a short drive to the terminal, and your guide stays until your flight is called.
